I took some photos of my completed Reserve TIE Pilot, submitted them to my GML, completed my 501st application, and several days later I was approved! Here are my submission photos:
So I decided to go build a TIE Reserve Pilot suit while I work on my TD. The Reserve Pilot is relatively quick and easy, at least when compared to building a TD. All in all, I’d say it took me 2 months to source all the components to this suit and was fairly inexpensive. This suit can get me 501st approval and my ultimate goal is to build a full TIE Pilot costume and possibly an Imperial Gunner.
The first part that I received were my flight gloves:
Next was my flight suit. It came with cog patches and is pretty awesome looking:
The flight suit needed a few modifications. I had to hem the legs as they were a bit too long, I also plan to add elastic straps to go under my feet which will help keep the pants tucked into my boots. The suit has some extra pockets below the knees that need to be removed. Thats a pretty easy mod that you can do yourself with a seam ripper:
Everyone I spoke to on the JRS forum told me to source my boots first. These actually took me a little while as I had trouble finding my size. I wear an 11.5 and thats a pretty common size, so most places did not have them available. I finally found a pair of replica German Jack Boots on eBay for a decent price. They aren’t comfortable at all and I dread walking and distance in them, but they look accurate and will hold me over until I can find a better pair.
Next was the comm pad. I was pretty excited when this arrived and I saw how amazing the LED lights looked illuminated!
Next came the belt and it is awesome looking:
The last piece to arrive was a custom sized Officer’s Cap. It fits like a glove and looks fantastic!
Now that i have all components, I’ll be putting it all together and taking some photos to submit to my garrison GML. Wish me luck!
